A Year in Review: Celebrating 2024 Through the Lens
As the year comes to a close, I’m taking a moment to reflect on an incredible journey filled with wagging tails, heartfelt moments, and exciting adventures. This year has been nothing short of amazing for Ash and Alder Photography, and I’m so grateful for everyone who helped make it unforgettable. Let’s dive into the highlights of 2024!
dedicating more time to pet photography
I was fortunate enough to have the ability to cut back my hours at my corporate job in pathology and focus more on my pet photography business. I hope to continue that effort until I can pursue this passion of mine full time. With the extra time on my hands I was able to connect and cater to those who needed immediate photoshoots to commemorate the life of a senior or ill pet. Though these types of photoshoots can really tug at your heartstrings, they are one of my favorite types of shoots because I feel so honored to be able to capture the memory of each beloved pet.
Chasing Dreams Across the Pond
One of the most exciting chapters of my year was traveling to Scotland to photograph dogs amidst the stunning landscapes, plus a couple of hairy coos named Hamish and Dougal. It was a dream come true to capture the essence of these incredible animals in such a breathtaking setting. The experience not only inspired me creatively but also reminded me of the universal love we share for our pets, no matter where we are in the world.
Published in Tails of the World, Volume 2
I’m thrilled to share that I was featured in Tails of the World, Volume 3! This collaborative project celebrates pet photography from around the globe by highlighting dogs in cities across the world and at the same time supports amazing causes. It’s such an honor to be part of a community that uses art to make a difference, and I’m already looking forward to participating in Volume 4 next year. Making a Local Impact
Closer to home, I dedicated my efforts to giving back to the community. This year, I created two pet calendars that benefited incredible rescue organizations like Purebred Rescue Organization of Ohio and Speak! for the Unspoken. These projects are always a labor of love, and knowing they’ll help rescue dogs find their forever homes makes it all worthwhile. There is still time to purchase a 2024 calendar here!
For the past 3 years Ash and Alder has had the special honor of photographing the annual 5k for K9s at Alum Creek Metro Park for Friends of the Shelter.
I also had the joy of raising funds for the Pickaway County Dog Shelter by cohosting Santa Paws Photos along with Izzy and Co Dog treats, Lisa Roberts for Keller Williams reality and All Fluffed Up Pet Salon. Watching pets light up around Santa (and maybe sneak a treat or two) was such a festive way to end the year.
International Pet Photography Awards
A major highlight of 2024 was receiving recognition in the International Pet Photography Awards. I’m honored to have 18 of my photos awarded, including 1 Silver, 4 Bronze with Distinction, and the remaining Bronze awards. This acknowledgment inspires me to continue growing as an artist and creating images that celebrate the beauty and spirit of pets.
Mobile Studio Adventures
My mobile pet photography studio took me all around Columbus this year! From parks to backyards to MARS Petcare for employee appreciation day, this setup allowed me to meet incredible pets and their families in the places they love most. It’s been a game-changer for creating unique and meaningful portraits. Take advantage of our current offer to book an outdoor session at full price and get a complimentary 30 minute mobile studio session for one pet! Book before January 1st to get this deal!
New Farmhouse-Style Products
This year also brought exciting additions to our product offerings. I’ve added a collection of farmhouse-style frames and displays that beautifully showcase your pet’s portraits. These timeless pieces have been a hit with clients, and I’m excited to see more homes filled with this charming décor.
Personal Highlights
On a personal note, our family had some fun surprises this year. We welcomed an unexpected Halloween litter of Kunekune piglets—a delightful addition to our little farm! To top it off, our annual Halloween photo was a hit, with the whole family dressing up as characters from The Wizard of Oz. We also had a fun little piggy Christmas photoshoot.
Looking Ahead
As I look forward to 2025, my heart is full of gratitude for the pets and people who have made this year so special. From being part of international projects to giving back locally, every moment has been a reminder of why I love what I do.
